About Rick Duffy

Rick Duffy is a writer of cross-genre short stories and the author of the award-winning young adult epic fantasy, The Sigil Masters.

More about Rick:

Rick Duffy was born in New Jersey, and moved to Colorado at age 12. The early days of home computing and pre-web networking became his chief hobbies. While in high school (and after a short stint as a waiter), he began his career as a computer operator, then as a software engineer. He continued his software career while attending local colleges in off-hours to pursue cross-spectrum interests, not seeking a degree. Finally, attracted by a research position in Artificial Intelligence, he wrapped up a B.S. degree in Computer Information Systems with an A.I. emphasis at Regis University.

With the birth of the web in the early 1990s, Rick left his A.I. career for an Internet startup. This firm was eventually bought by a communications company, where he worked until he retired. After that, while still performing contract and consulting jobs, he had time to discover his love of writing.

In 2018, his premiere book, The Sigil Masters, won the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writer’s Literary Gold contest for best Young Adult novel. It has since been honored by IndieBrag, the Eric Hoffer awards, and Wishing Shelf.

Today, Rick remains in Colorado, never far from a biking trail or a cup of tea, and continues writing to discover new worlds and wander from the familiar.

He is a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association, the Colorado Authors League, the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers, and the Alliance of Independent Authors.
